Waterpolo is a team sport that involves 6 players and 1 goalkeeper with the main aim of shooting and scoring as many goals in 4 quarters, each being 8 minutes long. It is a fast-paced game as players learn how to anticipate and constantly switch from offense to defense. Unlike other land based sports, playing waterpolo requires a variety of skills- from treading water with an ‘egg-beater’ kick, swimming with heads up, passing and shooting the ball with one hand to adapting and applying strategies taught to the ever-changing team formation.  Not only does waterpolo develop one physically, it also conditions the players’ mental attributes as they persevere on despite the challenges faced.

However, there is no need to worry especially for girls who do not know how to swim. Many of the seniors from the previous batches of girls team started out from being unable to swim, eventually competing in the national competition. As long as you are willing to learn and game to try out a new sport. At the Hwa Chong Waterpolo team, we train under the guidance of 2 very experienced coaches and we are cared for by our 2 dedicated teachers-in-charge.

The Hwa Chong Waterpolo team it is a tightly knit family with seniors and juniors going through thick and thin together whilst having fun, forging stronger friendships in and out of the pool as we fight, play and have fun together. If you are game to try and learn to play a new sport, do come and join us in our trials!
